What is anti-plagiarism and how does it work?

Antiplagiat is a unique project that was developed in the early 2000s in the Russian Federation. This is a software package, the essence of which is the analysis of texts in open sources and their comparison with the checked text. The system was launched in 2004-2005. One of the most popular plagiarism checking systems in the Russian Federation was the antiplagiat ru system.

In 2023-2024, 95% of Russian educational institutions use plagiarism checks in their practice. Anti-plagiarism checks are not mandatory in educational practice, but are used exclusively on a voluntary basis as a foundation for strengthening students' knowledge. However, the introduction of the anti-plagiarism system causes widespread controversy in society; to this day, there is no confirmation of the fact that after the introduction of the anti-plagiarism system, the quality of education has improved.



Who invented anti-plagiarism?
There is a big misconception that the anti-plagiarism system mobile app development service was introduced by the state and in particular by the Ministry of Education. This is absolutely wrong. Anti-plagiarism is a private project of proactive people, entrepreneurs (author's note - the founder, the company ZAO "Forexis"), which launched the project of the same name in 2005.

That is, antiplagiarism is just a program developed by some enterprising people, respectively, as in any entrepreneurial activity, the main goal of which is to make a profit. Today, the antiplagiarism system is installed in more than 5,000 universities in Russia. The annual turnover of the Antiplagiat ru company is estimated at hundreds of millions of rubles.

After the appearance of the first antiplagiat system in Russia (Antiplagiat ru), other programs for checking for borrowings began to appear actively. The most common antiplagiat programs today are Antiplagiat ru (Antiplagiat VUZ), Antiplagiarisma NET,  Rukontekst ,  Advego ,  Text ru .

However, the title of the main verification program was assigned to the Antiplagiat ru system, which has become the unofficial official Antiplagiat in Russia.
